No problem with trash transport from Hawaii to Washington landfill The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service released a report this week finding “no significant impact” to the environment related to the movement of garbage from Hawaii to a Washington state landfill.
   The agency is reviewing a proposal to allow trash, originating in Honolulu, to be disposed at the Roosevelt Regional Landfill in Klickitat County, Wash.
   APHIS also recently published new handling rules for the interstate movement of city garbage from Hawaii to the U.S. mainland for disposal.
   The rules, effective Sept. 22, require disposal companies to use USDA-approved bailing measures for garbage to prevent the spread of plant pests to the U.S. continent, in addition to meeting environmental protection laws.
