APM Terminals, Akwa open Tangiers container terminal

APM Terminals, Akwa open Tangiers container terminal    APM Terminals, the A.P. Moller-Maersk-owned global terminals company, and Casablanca-based Akwa Group, have started operations at Morocco's newest container terminal at the Port of Tangiers.
   The partners were awarded a 30-year concession in January 2005 and when fully developed the facility will have a capacity of 1.39 million TEUs. The terminal is 90 percent owned by APM Terminals with Akwa holding 10 percent.
   “Our vision is to offer our customers more options and solutions in the Straits of Gibraltar giving them a competitive edge in world markets. The new terminal expands our global terminal portfolio in one of the world's most important shipping lanes,” said Kim Fejfer, APM Terminals’ chief executive officer.
