Port of Green Bay sees 14% drop in cargo throughput

The port handled 1.9 million metric tons of cargo in 2015, a 14 percent decline from 2014.    The Port of Green Bay handled 1.9 million metric tons of cargo in 2015, a 14 percent decline from 2014, the Brown County Port and Resource Recovery Department said.
   “Despite the decline, seeing numbers right around the 2 million mark in tonnage is considered a good season,” Brown County Port Director Dean Haen said in a statement.
   Cement volumes rose 66 percent year-over-year in 2015, while foreign imports of salt and foreign exports of petroleum products also contributed to good tonnage numbers in 2015.
   In addition, the shipping season, which commenced right at the beginning of April, extended well into January as a result of mild temperatures earlier in the winter, Haen said.
