Second quarter operating revenue increased 12.8 percent to $27.2 million from $24.1 million.
Trailer Bridge's operating income jumped 207 percent to $5.1 million, from $1.7 million.
For all southbound cargo, the effective revenue per container equivalent increased 9.1 percent from the year-earlier period, and up 4.3 percent over the first quarter.
Trailer Bridge's Jacksonville/San Juan deployed vessel capacity utilization was 90.9 percent to Puerto Rico and 25.4 percent from Puerto Rico, compared to 91.5 percent and 30.8 percent, respectively, during the second quarter of 2004.
'Overall southbound volume actually increased 1.1 percent, but the increase in available vessel capacity was slightly higher due to a reconfiguration of stowage plans related to the company's Triplestack Box Carrier vessels,' Trailer Bridge said in a statement.
John D. McCown, chairman and chief executive officer of Jacksonville, Fla.-based Trailer Bridge, noted 'improved supply-and-demand dynamics in the Puerto Rican lane' that have had 'a positive effect through volume gains and then gradually trend towards a restoration of more normalized pricing levels.'
