CMA CGM carriers add Asia/Africa capacity CMA CGM and its subsidiary Delmas will increase capacity between Asia and Africa in January by starting a third loop and reorganizing their existing services.
   The French carriers are starting a new Africa Express (AFEX) service which will initially deploy eight ships of between 1,700 and 2,000-TEUs, linking North China and South Korea to West Africa with calls in Port Louis, Mauritius and Durban, South Africa while on route.
   At the same time, the current West Africa Express (WAX) and Asia Africa (ASAF) will see the reallocation of vessels and port calls as well as an extra ninth ship on WAX.
   ASAF will focus on Central and South Asia to West Africa while WAX will concentrate on Central and South China to West Africa.
   The changes are being made to “improve the quality of their services between Asia and West Africa in order to meet the strong demand for container transport triggered by the boom of Chinese exports to those markets,” the carriers said in a joint statement.
