Union Pacific opens new railport in Texas

The railway opened its new $40 million Union Pacific Kinney County Railport in Kinney County, Texas on Tuesday.    Union Pacific Railroad opened its new Union Pacific Kinney County Railport in Kinney County, Texas on Tuesday, the railway said.
Situated approximately 115 west of San Antonio, Texas, Kinney County borders the Mexican state of Coahuila.
The $40 million facility, which is located between Eagle Pass, Texas and Brackettville, Texas within the county, covers 100 acres and has the ability to expand up to 470 acres.
Rail cars will be cleaned and prepared at the Union Pacific Kinney County Railport in order to meet food-grade guidelines, allowing them to be ready for loadings in Mexico so they can return to the United States with products for distribution. “This will improve operational efficiency and network fluidity, which should help alleviate congestion that causes stopped or slow trains,” Union Pacific said.
“This new railport is strategically located to support our growing import beer business,” Union Pacific Vice President, Agricultural Products Jason Hess said in a statement. “The Eagle Pass gateway will become a pipeline for crossing millions of cases of beer annually.”
Based out of Omaha, Neb., Union Pacific Railroad connects 23 states in the western two-thirds of the U.S. by rail.
