OOCL-Aberdeen report: Visibility key concern for supply chain execs

OOCL-Aberdeen report: Visibility key concern for supply chain execs Nearly 80 percent of companies with $1 billion or more in revenue surveyed by the Aberdeen Group and OOCL Logistics said that poor supply chain visibility was their top concern, the Hong Kong-based logistics provider said Friday.
The benchmark report, 'The Supply Chain Visibility Roadmap, Moving from Vision to True Business Value,' examined the benefits of supply chain visibility on bottom line of OOCL customer.
Corporate executives were polled and identified improved visibility in orders, inventory and shipment status as top priorities, OOCL said. Inventory management and domestic transportation executives also identified supply chain visibility as critical to their business performance.
Aberdeen Group found that customers who used supply chain visibility products were two and one-half times as likely to have reduced their inventory levels since 2004; three times as likely to have faster order-to-delivery times; and twice as likely to have an on-time delivery rate of 95 percent or higher.
'Most companies depend on a hodgepodge of spreadsheets, carrier tracking Web sites, and homegrown department-centric applications that drain staff productivity and prevent proactive management,' said Beth Enslow, Aberdeen senior vice president of enterprise research and the report's author. 'Visibility leaders, on the other hand, are deploying visibility software with cross-functional access, and they're achieving better results across key metrics.'
The report featured case studies from retailers, manufacturers and distributors, and is available at https://www.aberdeen.com/includes/asp/sponsored_registration.asp?ci=/launch/report/benchmark/RA_Visibility_BE_3609.asp .
