SHELTON: DEFENSE TAKING LESSONS FROM LOGISTICS INDUSTRY    Gen. Henry H. Shelton, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said the Defense Department's goal is to take lessons from private industry in combining information technology, transportation and logistics into one system.
   'When we have visibility of all of our assets, there is a link between operations and focused logistics,' Shelton said Thursday at a meeting of the National Defense Transportation Association in Washington.
   Shelton listed several goals to improve the DoD's transportation and logistics:
   * Long-term relationships with industry and the use of commercial solutions to meet military challenges.
   * Improved distribution and transportation through time-definite delivery.
   * Logistics systems that are easy to understand, seamless in execution and transparent to the soldier.
   'I think we have to embrace technology,' Shelton said. 'We have to think in a revolutionary manner.'
