Mexico executes retaliatory tariffs on U.S. exports

The second of two rounds of planned duties will affect meat and cheese.    Mexico on Thursday completed its second round of retaliatory measures against U.S. tariffs steel and aluminum, installing additional duties of 20 percent to 25 percent on several U.S. meat and dairy exports.
   According to Mexico’s retaliation list, the country is now collecting retaliatory tariffs of 20 percent on U.S. exports of fresh pork, hams and shoulders with bone; other fresh pork cuts under Mexican HS Code 0203.19.99; frozen pork, hams and shoulders with bone; other frozen pork cuts under Mexican HS Code 0203.29.99; grated or powdered cheese; and other cheeses under Mexican HS Code 0406.90.04.
   The country also is collecting retaliatory tariffs of 25 percent on U.S. exports of unripened fresh cheese, including whey and cottage cheese, and other cheeses under Mexican HS Code 0406.90.99.
   The retaliatory tariffs are being applied in addition to any existing tariffs imposed by Mexico.
   Thursday’s action completes the final stage of Mexico’s two-part retaliation against U.S. global tariffs of 25 percent for steel and 10 percent for aluminum, which took effect for Mexico, Canada and the EU on June 1.
   The Mexican government implemented the first raft of retaliatory tariffs on June 5.
