USTDA announces Bombay conference    The expansion of transportation and trade facilitation infrastructure in South Asia will be the subject of an upcoming conference sponsored by the U.S. Trade and Development Agency.
   The event will take place March 7-9 at the Renaissance Mumbai Hotel in Bombay, India, and will feature major public infrastructure plans in the region valued at nearly $7 billion, representing near-term commercial opportunities for U.S. firms totaling more than $1.5 billion.
   'This conference presents an important opportunity to promote trade and economic integration among South Asian nations, and to showcase U.S. expertise in intermodal transportation and trade logistics,' said USTDA Director Thelma J. Askey.
   The conference will also include presentations highlighting success stories in transportation infrastructure finance and best practices in intermodal transportation. Senior officials from South Asian nations and the U.S. government, including Department of Transportation Under Secretary for Policy Jeffrey N. Shane, will participate in the event.
   Featured projects will include ports, airports, railways, highways, intermodal connectors and inland waterways. The conference will be held in cooperation with the U.S. Transportation, State, Commerce, and Homeland Security departments. Officials from the Overseas Private Investment Corp. and the Asian Development Bank will also be on hand to discuss finance and insurance programs available for projects in the region.
   The conference is open to U.S. and South Asian company representatives interested in business opportunities associated with transportation and trade facilitation projects in the region.
