Los Angeles inbound containers up 6% in April    The port of Los Angeles saw a modest growth in inbound traffic in April, with the number of inbound containers rising 6 percent, to 339,943 TEUs, from 319,621 TEUs in April of last year.
   Los Angeles’ growth rate compares with a gain of 13 percent in inbound container traffic at neighboring Long Beach, where inbound boxes rose to 227,046 TEUs, from 200,476 TEUs in April of last year. The latest figures suggest that the port of Long Beach is closing the gap with Los Angeles, which became the largest U.S. West Coast container port by far since attracting the business of Maersk Sealand.
   Los Angeles’ loaded outbound was up 5 percent in April, reaching 102,541 TEUs, as compared to 97,541 TEUs a year ago.
   The volume of empty containers in Los Angeles amounted to 174,413 TEUs in April, up 1 percent.
   The port of Los Angeles’ total throughput in April rose 5 percent, to 616,897 TEUs. This compares with a total traffic of 441,061 TEUs at Long Beach that was 10 percent higher than a year ago.
