A prolonged dry spell in northern and eastern China has brought record low water levels at some parts of the river, the report said. In Wuhan, a key central Chinese city on the Yangtze, the water level was 9.4 feet, compared to a dry season average of around 13 feet.
There are widespread dredging plans along the river, particularly at its eastern delta section where it empties into the cargo rich Shanghai-Jiangsu Province region.
