Schiphol, Changi sign e-freight agreement

Schiphol, Changi sign e-freight agreement    Amsterdam Schiphol Airport and Singapore Changi Airport have signed a memorandum of understanding on paperless air cargo, the airports said Tuesday.
   The agreement calls on both airports to facilitate and promote to stakeholders in their local supply chains the use and further development of paperless air cargo transport, known as e-freight. The airports also agreed to exchange e-freight knowledge, expertise and explore the possibilities of joint research. The document was signed at the 25th International Air Cargo Forum & Exposition this week in Amsterdam.
   E-freight is an International Air Transport Association initiative and aims to replace paper with digital documents throughout the supply chain in air freight. A typical air freight shipment could generate as many as 30 documents.
   'Working paperless creates many benefits for all parties handling cargo in our marketplace, so we are convinced that implementation of e-freight will contribute substantially to realizing our strategy and our ambition,' said Enno Osinga, vice president cargo at Schiphol. 'But we will not be able do this alone. We need our local partners in the supply chain, and we need other airports to be able to create paperless trade lanes.'
