Port of Rotterdam Authority inks dry infrastructure contracts

The port authority awarded two contracts for road and landscaping maintenance in and around the port for a total of $16.8 million.    Port of Rotterdam Authority late last month inked two maintenance contracts for the port’s dry infrastructure – roads and green spaces – the port said in a statement. 
   The two-year road infrastructure contract was awarded to Van Gelder with potential for an eight-year extension. Combined with landscaping and greenery maintenance – an additional two-year contract awarded to BTL – the contracts total 14 million euros (U.S. $16.8 million) for the first two years.
   The Port of Rotterdam Authority manages the various port sites, quays and waterways, a great many infrastructure facilities, such as roads, pipework and various green spaces and outsources the maintenance work to contractors. For the latest maintenance contracts, Port Authority used a different tendering method known as best value procurement, the port said. Additionally, the port authority decided to use the traditional Rationalization and Automation for Civil Engineering, Hydraulic Engineering and Road Engineering (RAW) system for the first two years, subsequently to be succeeded by a performance contract, said the port.
   “This year, the World Economic Forum hailed the Netherlands as the country with the best port infrastructure in the world for the sixth year running,” said Port of Rotterdam Authority COO Ronald Paul. “We are therefore delighted that we have been able to select two excellent partners who wish to join us in an innovative procurement system aimed at ensuring a mutually successful partnership.”
