PSA throughput grows 5.2% in 2012

   The global terminal operator PSA International saw throughput handled at its terminals in 2012 rise 5.2 percent year-on-year to 60.1 million TEUs.
   Volume at PSA’s flagship terminals in Singapore grew 6.4 percent to 31.3 million TEUs, while at terminals outside of Singapore, volume grew 3.9 percent to 28.8 million TEUs.
   “2012 was another challenging year for shipping and port industries as global trade growth continued to be weak, undermined by volatile market conditions, including the ongoing sovereign debt crisis in Europe, sluggish recovery of the American economy, turmoil in the Middle East and the slowdown of economic growth in China,” Tan Chong Meng, PSA’s group chief executive officer, said in a statement. – Eric Johnson
