Maersk fleet nears 1 million TEUs    The combined containership fleet operated by A.P. Moller-Maersk, the world’s largest containership operator, will reach one million TEUs in capacity in the next few days, the French shipbroker and database provider BRS-Alphaliner said Tuesday.
   BRS-Alphaliner calculated the combined fleet of Maersk Sealand and its sister company Safmarine has reached 998,613 TEUs, representing 12.4 percent of the world’s container shipping fleet. The carriers’ fleet amounts to 375 container ships, of which 25 each have a capacity of more than 7,500 TEUs.
   On Sept. 1, Maersk Sealand and Safmarine operated a combined fleet of 965,665 TEUs or 362 vessels.
   The world’s second-largest containership operator behind Maersk Sealand/Safmarine remains Mediterranean Shipping Co., which had a fleet of 613,983 TEUs on Sept. 1, according to BRS-Alphaliner.
