Hyundai considering auto plants in Latin America The automaker Hyundai is considering a plant to build new cars in Latin America in an effort to offset high duties on foreign-made automobiles, the Associated Press reports.
   Hyundai has a U.S. plant in Alabama and also has plants in China, India, Turkey and the Czech Republic, as well as its home base of South Korea.
   It is following a strategy of global expansion and is now turning to Latin America. The report said the company is also looking to build new plants in Southeast Asia, as well.
   The Alabama plant now receives parts from a combination of U.S. sources and from overseas sources that ship parts primarily through the ports in Southern California.
   With plants in both Alabama and Latin America, there could be opportunities for transshipment operations in Florida.
