Port Everglades sets world record in cruise handling Port Everglades may not be known as one of the busiest cruise ports in the world, port director Phillip Allen says, but over the weekend the port set a world record for the number of cruise passengers passing through in a single day.
      There were 44,108 cruise passengers moved in and out of the port on December 23, with 13 cruise ships berthed at the port.
   Port Everglades follows a business strategy of combining cargo, cruise, and bulk petroleum facilities. Officials say the revenues generated by each segment help with the overall fiscal strength of the port.
   While Port Everglades may not be the most famous cruise port in the world, the world record it broke was its own, established in 2003.
