Major water main breaks at Port New York/New Jersey

Yard operations at APM Terminals Port Elizabeth facility continue to be impacted after a major water main broke early Tuesday morning.    A major water main broke early Tuesday morning at APM Terminals Port Elizabeth facility that is impacting a “large area” of its yard operations, according to customer alerts from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
   The port authority said that while marine operations have not been affected, there was limited and restricted access in several sections of the APMT Elizabeth yard for safety reasons. Yesterday, access was restricted in the 602-607, 700-707, 800-807 and 900-905 areas for all import loads and free-time for all impacted loads was extended as a result. Exports, empties and import loads were diverted to the 100, 200, 300, 400, 500 sections of APMT Elizabeth yard.
   The port authority has begun repairing the water main, but warned tenants to continue to expect water outages throughout the day today.
   Although sections 700-707 and 800-807 at APMT Elizabeth remain closed this morning, the port authority said all other sections of the terminal have reopened.
   Part of the greater Port of New York and New Jersey, APMT Elizabeth is the company’s largest terminal on the East Coast of North America, serving top shipping lines such as APL , ACL, CMA CGM, Hapag Lloyd, HMM, MSC, NYK, OOCL, Turkon Line, and US Lines in addition to fellow AP Moller-Maersk subsidiaries Maersk Line and Safmarine.
