Puerto Rico student lands Crowley scholarship

Puerto Rico student lands Crowley scholarship Cesmarie Perez Miranda, a 19-year-old student from Carolina, Puerto Rico, has been awarded this year's Thomas B. Crowley Sr. Memorial Scholarship.

   The award, which provides $1,500 a semester for books and tuition, goes to a student selected by Puerto Rico Department of Education, which follows specific criteria established by Crowley Maritime Corp. The scholarship is awarded based on financial need and a record of academic success.
   Perez Miranda maintained a 4.0 grade point average at her high school in Carolina, and plans to pursue a bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Puerto Rico in Rio Piedras.
   'I am truly grateful and would like to thank Crowley for helping me achieve my goals,' she said.
   This year's scholarship marks the 25th year of the Crowley scholarship program. The award now bears the name of the late Crowley Maritime chief, who died in 1994.
