EVERGREEN STUDIES 6,000-TEU SHIPS’ PLAN

    Taiwanese carrier Evergreen said that it is studying the possibility of building five new containerships of 6000-TEU capacity.
    "No concrete conclusion has been made at present," said a spokesman for Evergreen at the carrier’s head office in Taipei.
    If the order is confirmed, the 6,000-TEU vessels would be the largest in Evergreen’s fleet. The carrier operates about 120 containerships, the largest of which are its new 5,364-TEU "U-type" vessels.
    Evergreen will take delivery of its 11th 5,364-TEU ship, the Ever Useful, about Dec. 15. The ship will replace another 5,364-TEU ship, the Ever Unique, in the Trans-Pacific Southwest loop. In turn, the Ever Unique will be deployed in the Hong Kong/Taiwan/U.S. West Coast service of Evergreen, replacing a smaller ship of 1,810-TEU capacity.
The first 10 U-type ships of Evergreen are employed in its Trans-Pacific Southwest and Trans-Pacific Northwest services. The carrier has not announced where the 11th, 12th and 13th vessels in the series will be deployed in the long term.
