Jeff McCarthy of SF Marine Exchange killed in accident Jeff McCarthy, deputy executive director at the Marine Exchange of the San Francisco Bay Region, was killed Wednesday in an accident on his family's farm in Modesto.
   No other details of the accident were available, but a message from the Marine Exchange of Southern California reported that the entire San Francisco organization is 'in absolute shock over this tragic loss.'
   McCarthy was an iconic figure within the Marine Exchange community. Capt. Lynn Korwatch, executive director at the Marine Exchange in San Francisco said Wednesday, that McCarthy was the 'backbone' of that group.
   Responsible for myriad duties and responsibilities at the exchange, McCarthy also served the Maritime Information Services of North America as head of the organization's technology committee. He was also deeply involved with MISNA lobbying efforts in Washington, D.C. McCarthy had just returned from a trip to the Capitol lobbying for MISNA's Automated Secure Vessel Tracking System program.
   Capt. Manny Aschemeyer, executive director of the Marine Exchange of Southern California, said McCarthy was 'a genuine friend, and a true professional — as well as being an encourager, a mentor and an inspiration to others.'
   McCarthy is survived by his wife and 4-year-old daughter.
