Old Dominion names Metz VP legal    Old Dominion Freight Line has appointed Walt Metz to vice president and assistant general counsel.
   A 29-year veteran in legal affairs, Metz's experience includes counseling privately and publicly held companies and clients represented by private practices. At Old Dominion, his immediate responsibilities will include oversight of liability claims and providing strategic legal counsel to the entire organization. Over time, he will become more involved in all aspects of the general counsel responsibility, the Thomasville, N.C.-based less-than-truckload carrier said.
   Before joining Old Dominion, Metz spent five years directing legal affairs as the general counsel and secretary for Americold Realty Trust and Americold Logistics, a provider of temperature-controlled food distribution and logistics services. He held positions in the legal departments of Sears Holdings Roebuck Co. and Werner Enterprises. Metz's career also includes experience with commercial litigation and general practice at two Omaha, Neb., firms.
