DHL eCommerce launches domestic delivery service in Chile

The e-commerce provider will offer next-day delivery in Santiago and other major Chilean cities, with two-to-three-day delivery services across the rest of the country.    DHL eCommerce, a division of the Deutsche Post DHL Group, launched a business-to-consumer domestic delivery operation in Chile, driven by increasing e-commerce volumes in the country, DHL said.
   The Chilean e-commerce sector is set to double its size to $2.3 billion by 2020.
   As a result, DHL will offer next-day delivery in Santiago and other major Chilean cities, with two-to-three-day delivery services across the rest of the country.
   DHL e-Commerce will manage the end-to-end delivery of packages from the store to the customer, with real-time tracking available for both parties.
   “The future is incredibly bright for the e-commerce sector across Latin America with a forecasted growth of 21 percent CAGR and is expected to reach $54 billion by 2020. Chile is number one in the region for online shopping with rising incomes, improving digital connectivity, and seven out of 10 shoppers already shopping online,” DHL eCommerce Charles Brewer said. “With e-commerce in Chile growing at such a rapid pace, we see a fantastic opportunity for high quality solutions that will offer a great customer experience and more choice, convenience and control for Chile’s online shoppers.”
   The DHL investment in Chile will include a 1,662-square-meter central hub and depot, as well as a growing ground fleet.
   “Chile is one of the most advanced e-commerce markets in Latin America with 72 percent internet penetration and 50 percent smartphone penetration – the highest in the region,” said DHL eCommerce Chile Country Manager Hugo Donoso. “With e-commerce currently accounting for 2.8 percent of the country’s total retail sales, there is plenty of room for growth.”
