NORTHWEST, KLM RAISE FUEL SURCHARGES

NORTHWEST, KLM RAISE FUEL SURCHARGES    Northwest Airlines Cargo and KLM Royal Dutch Airlines said Tuesday they will join other airlines in implementing fuel surcharges.
   Northwest will implement a surcharge of 20 cents per kilogram (9 cents per pound), based on actual weight, effective April 1. The surcharge will cover domestic and international freight products, including VIP Same Day Package Service, the company said.
   “Shipper-loaded containers for U.S.-origin domestic and international shipments will be flat-rated based on unit load device type,” Northwest said. For applicable charges, see https://www.cargo.nwa.com.
   “With the unstable situation in the Middle East, and the recently announced deadline with Iraq, oil prices are reaching record-high levels. As a result, we are forced to take this action to defray additional fuel costs,” said Richardson Sells, Northwest’s vice president, global sales.
   KLM said it would increase its fuel surcharges for cargo transports worldwide from 0.15 euros to 0.20 euros in Europe, and to 20 cents per actual kilo weight in the United States
   KLM’s increase is effective March 24.
