Hamburg Sud’s Trident to call Adelaide, consolidate New Zealand calls    Hamburg Sud is adding fortnightly calls at Adelaide to its Europe/U.S. East Coast/Australasia Trident service, giving it the only direct connection between the Australian port and North America.
   The German carrier is phasing in an extra six ships on the service to improve the sailing frequency from fortnightly to weekly. The first call at Adelaide will be made by the 2,478-TEU “Cap Saray” on May 20. The Adelaide call will stay as fortnightly for the rest of 2007, although Hamburg Sud told American Shipper it hopes to go weekly at some point.
   Effective from the same “Cap Saray” voyage, the carrier will consolidate calls at New Zealand’s North Island by switching its southbound call from Auckland to Tauranga.
   The revised port rotation of the weekly 12-ship Trident service will be Tilbury; Bremerhaven; Antwerp; Philadelphia; Savannah, Ga.; Cartagena, Colombia; Tauranga; Sydney; Melbourne; Adelaide (fortnightly); Timaru; Napier; Tauranga; Cartagena; Savannah; Philadelphia; and back to Tilbury.
