Echo Global Logistics buys Purple Plum

   Echo Global Logistics said Tuesday it has acquired most of the assets of Plum Logistics, a truckload transportation brokerage outfit located in Wakefield, Mass.
   Purple Plum is a non-asset-based service provider that specializes in temperature-controlled truckload services. During the past 12 months, it had about $17 million in gross revenue. It was founded in July 2008 by Sam Freni, who will continue as a regional vice president.
   Echo said the acquisition expands its sales organization and customer relationships, while developing its truckload capabilities to include additional temperature-controlled carrier relationships throughout the United States and Canada.
   “Refrigerated freight service is a strategic component of Echo’s expanding service offering, and the acquisition of Purple Plum enhances our ability to offer our clients the simplicity of a complete transportation management solution,” said Echo Global’s Chief Executive Officer Douglas R. Waggoner in a statement.
