Port of Oakland import volumes surge in September

The Northern California port handled 79,135 TEUs of containerized imports during the month, a 12.6 percent jump from September 2016, according to recent data from the Port of Oakland.    The Port of Oakland’s containerized import volumes in September rose 12.6 percent from 12 months prior to 79,135 TEUs, the port said Monday.
   The figure represents the largest September import volume in the port’s history.
   On a year-to-date basis, containerized import volumes ticked up 4.1 percent from the corresponding 2016 period, reflecting increased spending by U.S. consumers on overseas goods.
   Total September container volumes at the port rose 12.7 percent from September 2016.
   Overall, the Northern California port is frequented by 28 fully cellular container services connecting it to regions outside of North America, 16 of which strictly sail between Asia and the West Coast of North America, according to ocean carrier schedule and capacity database BlueWater Reporting’s Port Dashboard tool.
