ACE quota filing deadline arrives Saturday

Effective tomorrow, filers must file entries for cargo release and corresponding entry summaries for quota merchandise.    Saturday is the next date on U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s schedule for mandatory electronic filing of entries and entry summaries in the Automated Commercial Environment (ACE).
Since March 31, importers or their agents have been required to file several entry types in ACE, with entries that must be cleared by other agencies such as the Food and Drug Administration, subsequently phased in.
On July 23, filers must file entries for cargo release and corresponding entry summaries for quota merchandise. This includes entries with the African Growth and Opportunity Act, Haiti HOPE, and Dominican Republic Earned Import Allowance Certificate trade preference claims.
ACE is a new, multibillion dollar information technology platform being used by CBP to track, control and process all international cargo shipments for admissibility, duties, fees, security and compliance with trade regulations. It also is the pipeline for communication with traders about their shipments and eliminates redundant filing by routing entries to other relevant government agencies for clearance decisions. President Obama has mandated that all agencies plug into this so-called International Trade Data System, which relies on ACE, by the end of the year.
CBP is urging filers to make sure their software vendors have added code to their Automated Broker Interface systems so they can properly interface with ACE on quota entries.
