CMA CGM partners with AgreeFreight on Asia-Europe bookings

The French ocean liner now allows customers to book cargo through AgreeFreight’s online portal for port-to-port bookings.    French ocean shipping line CMA CGM will take Asia-Europe freight bookings through Hong-Kong based booking platform company AgreeFreight, according to multiple media sources.
   AgreeFreight currently offers an online portal for container freight rates for port-to-port bookings but plans to implement gate-to-gate rates in the near future.
   “Its ultimate target is to offer a global door-to-door option that would include different modes of transportation. It will also seek to develop on other trade routes such as the Transpacific market,” Splash 24/7 reported in regards to AgreeFreight’s future plans.
   Carriers are increasingly concerned with digital access to freight booking and tracking and have begun partnering with companies beyond traditional freight-forwarders to serve customers more efficiently via a digital platform.    
   The agreement with AgreeFreight comes a few months after CMA CGM signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Chinese e-commerce company Alibaba which allows Alibaba customers to book directly onto CMA CGM services from China to the Mediterranean.
