Copenhagen Malm÷ Port cutting jobs as car volumes decline Copenhagen Malm' Port AB (CMP), the joint Danish and Swedish port entity, has given notice to 15 full-time employees in response to a drop-off in car handling volume.
   CMP has established itself as a Nordic hub for the distribution of cars since the cross-border alliance was inked in 2001. Since then it’s annual car volumes have grown from 26,000 to 520,000 in 2007. However, CMP said fewer new car sales in the Nordic, North Europe, and Russia markets, mean that it will only handle 420,000 cars this year.
   “During the last year we have hired many new employees for handling cars, and CMP has never had so many employed as we have in the present situation (about 500). But when we handle 100,000 fewer cars annually it must be reflected in the number of employees and currently we are adjusting,” said Lars Karlsson Man, CMP director. He added that the situation has rapidly been reflected on the port’s turnover.
