The company said it needed a larger facility near Frankfurt as a result of continuous growth in temperature-controlled airfreight.
The new center serves as a hub for transport preparation, temporary storage, and transport follow-up for both active and passive temperature-controlled pharmaceutical and medicinal products.
In addition, the new facility features 33,000 square meters of warehousing space and a 600 meter competency center with two different temperature-controlled areas.
One of the temperature-controlled areas is designed for pharmaceutical products that must be stored between 2 degrees Celsius and 8 degrees Celsius (35.6 degrees Fahrenheit and 46.4 degrees Fahrenheit).
The additional temperature-controlled area is dedicated to a controlled temperature range between 15 degrees Celsius and 25 degrees Celsius.
“In this new life sciences and healthcare center we will be handling every aspect of transport and warehouse management for our pharmaceuticals customers and their air freight shipments,” DHL Global Forwarding Vice President, Airfreight Germany Thilo Specht said in a statement. “Although our focus in Mörfelden is on customers from the life sciences and healthcare sectors, at the Frankfurt airport we are also coordinating transport solutions for other industries such as automotive, chemical and technology.”
