Port of Felixstowe increases crane height at Trinity Terminal

The United Kingdom port terminal will get two new 59.5-meter cranes, while ten existing cranes will be raised to a height of 46.5 meters, the port authority said in a statement.    The Port of Felixstowe in the United Kingdom will utilize 12 new and improved cranes at Trinity Terminal.
   The port has begun the work of raising 10 existing cranes at Trinity Terminal while ordering two new gantry cranes for Berths 8&9, according to port authority Hutchinson Ports.
   The new cranes will be built by ZPMC in Shanghai and will have an outreach of almost 60 meters. Expected delivery is scheduled for February 2018.
   The other ten existing cranes will be increased to 46.5 meters and were also built by the Shanghai company. ZPMC’s Dutch subsidiary has been contracted out to raise the height of the existing cranes, which are slated for completion in December 2018.
   “The Port of Felixstowe has facilities to handle vessels of all sizes. It is the clear port-of-choice for the largest mega ships and we had 137 calls by vessels of over 18,000 TEU last year. Increasing the total number of cranes on the port and increasing the height of 10 cranes on Trinity Terminal will give us greater flexibility to accommodate the largest categories of ship size,” said Executive Director of Hutchinson Ports Clemence Cheng.
   “In total, we will have 22 cranes capable of handling the largest container vessels in service,” said Cheng.
