Through the combination of new services and the installation of the container cranes, the terminal expects to reach a total of 450,000 TEUs by the end of the year, a 75,000-TEU increase over 2016’s total capacity, the terminal said.
The first of the three new services to call the terminal will be THE Alliance’s Transatlantic Loop 6 with the April 6 arrival of the Brevik Bridge. The vessel will then sail across the Atlantic to the U.S. East Coast.
Members of THE Alliance include Hapag-Lloyd, Yang Ming, “K” Line, NYK and MOL.
The second service is the OCEAN Alliance’s Amerigo, making its maiden voyage into SCT on April 7. Following its call to Salerno, the transatlantic Amerigo will then sail to the U.S. East Coast.
Meanwhile, the third service will call the terminal on April 15 via COSCO Shipping, and will then journey to North Europe.
Also this month, SCT will be frequented by the 6,552-TEU HS Paris, the largest containership to ever call the terminal. The vessel will be operating on the North Europe/South Med loop, which has routinely called SCT in the past. The loop is jointly operated by Hamburg Süd, CMA CGM and Seago Line, Maersk’s intra-European short-sea specialist; with Alianca and Hapag-Lloyd as slot purchasers.
