Cargo Data’s RF in-transit temperature solution

The California-based technology developer Cargo Data Corp. said Monday it has developed two radio frequency solutions designed to automate in-transit temperature-monitoring programs.
The solutions are aimed at the many perishable-receiving operations that rely on conventional digital temperature recorders, which must be connected to a computer running proprietary software to view and print a temperature chart/graph, the company said.
“Once data is downloaded from a temperature recorder, receiving or (quality assurance) personnel then typically distribute individual data records on demand by email or fax,” Cargo Data added.
The company’s Automated Temperature Monitoring System (ATMS) uses RF technology to capture, display, and archive temperature data within moments of the shipment’s arrival. A pilot study for a major eastern U.S. grocery retailer found 35 minutes of staff time was eliminated for each perishable shipment that arrived with out-of-range temperature conditions.
“ATMS is designed to function with many Cargo Data digital temperature recorders already in wide use across the United States,” the company said. “Upgrading to ATMS only requires use of Cargo Data’s unique Express handheld chart viewing device and the iMAT terminal data collection device. This simplicity makes same-day implementation possible.” – Eric Johnson
