WTO looks at four candidates for director-general post    The World Trade Organization (WTO) has begun assessing four candidates in the running to be the WTO's next director-general.
   The six-year term of Supachai Panitchpakdi of Thailand, the WTO's current director-general, expires at the end of August. The organization has set an end-of-May deadline for choosing Panitchpakdi's successor.
   The four candidates are Pascal Lamy of France, former European Union trade commissioner; Carlos Perez del Castillo of Uruguay, former chairman of the WTO's governing council; Jaya Krishna Cuttaree, foreign and trade minister of Mauritius, and Luiz Felipe de Seixas Correa, envoy to the WTO from Brazil.
   The front-runner appears to be Lamy, the best-known of the contenders, followed by Perez del Castillo, a WTO 'insider.'
