Both firms are based in New York, and Mark Laufer, owner and president of Laufer Group, said about 11 employees from Trans-World, including principals Gary and Corey Klestadt, will join Laufer, boosting it to about 103 employees.
Laufer said the acquisition would strengthen its customs brokerage and freight forwarding businesses, especially in clearance from the Food and Drug Administration and other government agencies, product specialization, U.S. Customs compliance and security initiatives, like “10+2.”
Laufer, which has annual revenue of about $120 million, is a full service logistics company with offices in Los Angeles, Seattle and Kansas City in addition to its New York headquarters. Founded in 1948, it provides customers with enhanced supply chain visibility and control across all services, including contract management, non-vessel-operating common carriage, customs brokerage and air freight forwarding.
Laufer has an NVO operation that handles about 50,000 containers per year, primarily inbound containers on the transpacific, though it also handles outbound boxes to Europe and other trade lanes.
