BUSH SIGNS BILL FOR SECURITY FUNDING

BUSH SIGNS BILL FOR SECURITY FUNDING    President Bush on Friday signed into law an act providing supplemental funding for toward antiterrorism measures for fiscal year 2002.
   The 2002 Supplemental Appropriations Act for Further Recovery From and Response to Terrorist Attacks on the United States provides the U.S. Coast Guard with $318 million to be available until Sept. 2003 for operational expenses.
   Additionally, the law provides $347 million toward acquisition, construction and improvements for emergency expenses at ports for homeland security. That funding will be available until September 2004.
   The law also allocates $27.9 million to the Under Secretary of Transportation Security for the deployment of “Operation Safe Commerce,” a program that monitors the movements of cargo containers through electronic seals.
