Saia’s revenues increase in Q3

   Saia achieved third-quarter revenues of $293 million, a 5.4-percent year-over-year increase, on a 34-percent raise in operating income.
   For the year, revenues improved over the first nine months of 2012 by $25 million to $859 million.
   LTL shipments increased by 0.6 percent per day, but weight per shipment declined by 0.7 percent, as tonnage per workday fell by 0.1 percent when compared to the same period in 2012. Yield rose by 3.8 percent, year over year.
   “The infusion of new equipment into our network and our planned industrial engineering initiatives are continuing to result in cost reductions, particularly in linehaul miles driven and fuel efficiency,” Saia’s president and chief executive officer, Rick O’Dell, said in a statement. “I believe the company’s strong balance sheet, effective revenue management and demonstrated operational excellence provide a solid foundation for additional progress as we move forward.”
