ICTSI company takes over Black Sea port operation

ICTSI company takes over Black Sea port operation The operation and management of Batumi Container Terminal in Georgia was last Friday officially handed over to Batumi International Container Terminal LLC (BICT), a subsidiary of Philippines-based International Container Terminal Services Inc.
The terminal is ICTSI’s first major investment in the Black Sea region. In September, ICTSI’s Georgian company obtained a 48-year concession from Batumi Port Holdings Ltd., which has the exclusive management right over the state-owned shares in Batumi Sea Port Ltd. BICT will pay an annual rent of 60 cents per square meter for the first 18 months, increasing to $5.50 per square meters thereafter.
The container terminal handover also includes rail ferry terminal facilities and the 181-meter general cargo Berth 6.
BICT is looking to refurbish two portal cranes at Berth 6 and also looking into handling container vessels using mobile harbor cranes as well as roll-on/roll-off vessels. Also, Batumi Sea Port and BICT, though their respective consultants, have outlined the preliminary activities required to implement the strengthening of Berth 4 and 5 quay wall.
