Port of Long Beach security center design completed

Port of Long Beach security center design completed CH2M HILL Lockwood Greene has completed the design of a new $15 million Security Command and Control Center for the Port of Long Beach, the Denver Colo.-based firm announced Wednesday.
   The 25,000-square-foot facility is planned to house the Port of Long Beach Security Division, as well as representatives of the Port of Los Angeles Police, the U.S. Coast Guard, and the U.S. Customs and Border Patrol. These organizations are currently spread throughout the Los Angeles-Long Beach port complex.
   When completed, the facility will house around-the-clock security personnel who will monitor the port’s surveillance system, serve as the headquarters and dispatch center for the Port of Long Beach Security Division, as well as incorporate a 15,000-pound capacity, roof-mounted heliport to support the Security operations. The facility will also support the port’s underwater dive team and ocean units.
   The project is being jointly funded by grants from the Department of Homeland Security and the two adjacent ports.
