BANKS TO MANAGE SANDLER & TRAVIS TRADE ADVISORY SERVICESÆ ACE WORK
Samuel H. Banks has joined Sandler & Travis Trade Advisory Services to head up the firm’s participation in the development of U.S. Customs’ future computer system, the Automated Commercial Environment.
'Sandler & Travis Trade Advisory Services (SITAS) is part of the IBM Global Logistics-led team, called the e-Customs Partnership, which was awarded the $1.3-billion ACE systems development contract by Customs on April 27.
Banks, a 28-year veteran and former deputy commissioner at Customs, has worked as a consultant with the Air Transport Association, United Parcel Service and Lockheed Martin, and most recently as a corporate officer for Arzoon and From2 Global Solutions in Washington before joining SITAS. “ACE was just too big to pass up,” he said.
Banks joins the firm as director of U.S. Customs ACE Modernization. He also joins two other former Customs deputy commissioners on the SITAS team. They are Alfred R. De Angelus, senior vice president of the firm, and Mike Lane, SITAS’ executive director of international customs modernization. Robert P. Schaffer, former assistant commissioner of commercial operations at Customs, is president of SITAS.
“Sam brings tremendous experience and understanding of government and business modernization needs,” Schaffer said. “He will also be valuable to SITAS’ role in other worldwide customs modernization projects.”
