HHLA upgrades container rail terminal

The logistics provider and terminal operator’s rail terminal at the Port of Hamburg’s Container Terminal Altenwerder will undergo a project to add two more tracks, increasing the rail terminal’s annual handling capacity by 17.7 percent.    The Port of Hamburg’s rail terminal at Container Terminal Altenwerder (CTA) is currently undergoing a construction project for the addition of two more rail tracks in response to the growing number of rail containers, logistics provider and terminal operator Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA) said.
   The expansion project commenced in early April and is expected to last six months. Upon completion, the rail terminal at CTA will have an annual handling capacity of 930,000 TEUs, a 17.7 percent increase, and will feature nine rail tracks instead of seven.
   In addition to CTA, HHLA has two other container terminals at the Port of Hamburg, Container Terminal Burchardkai and Container Terminal Tollerort, along with Container Terminal Odessa in the Ukraine.
