ASIAN AIR CARGO TRAFFIC UP 14% IN JUNE

   Airports in the Asia-Pacific region had another month of strong growth in cargo volumes in June, according to statistics published by Geneva-based Airports Council International.
    Asia-Pacific airports reported a cargo traffic increase of 14 percent, to 1.68 million metric tons in June. Asia-Pacific was again the region with the fastest growth rate in cargo volume.
    Strong figures were reported by the major Asian airports of Tokyo-Narita (up 14.4 percent), Hong Kong (up 10.0 percent), Seoul (up 21.8 percent), Singapore (up 13.9 percent), Taipei (up 19.2 percent), Osaka (up 16.0 percent), Bangkok (up 15.3 percent) and Shanghai (up 42.4 percent).
    North America airports handled 2.39 million tons in June, an increase of 6.1 percent. European airports reported a combined volume of 962,983 tons, up 6.3 percent.
    World airport cargo traffic was 4.86 million tons, up 7.8 percent.
