Port of Nansha ups capacity 10.5% in 2017

The southern Chinese port handled 13.9 million TEUs in 2017, and saw an especially sharp increase in container volumes on the North American trade during the year.    The Port of Nansha recorded a container throughput of 13.9 million TEUs in 2017, a 10.5 percent increase from 2016.
   The southern Chinese port saw an especially sharp increase on the North American trade in 2017, handling 639,981 TEUs, a 32.6 percent boost from the 482,573 TEUs handled in 2016.
   “It seems Port of Nansha is really catching on with the North America marketplace, and the industry recognizes our proven value proposition,” John L. Painter, president & CEO Port of Nansha Guangzhou Port America, LLC said. The port has four services to the U.S. West Coast, and Painter said the port and shippers are actively seeking an East Coast service.
   The Port of Nansha is the only deepwater port on the west side of the Pearl River Delta, an area that is less congested than the Shenzhen ports on the east side of the delta, the port said.
   According to ocean carrier schedule and capacity database BlueWater Reporting‘s Port Dashboard tool, the Port of Nansha is called by 46 liner services that connect it to regions outside of China and Hong Kong, ranging from intra-Asia loops to global services. Eight of those services are alliance services.
