Hanjin expands in South Africa

Hanjin will add two services to its South Africa service network.    Hanjin Shipping announced that by joining Evergreen Line, COSCO, “K” Line, PIL and MOL on their Far East-South Africa services, it will add two services, the Asia-South Africa Central (SF1) and the Asia-South Africa Express (SF2), to its South Africa service network.
   The SF1 will deploy seven vessels, with an approximate average capacity of 4,300 TEUs, on a port rotation calling Shanghai, Ningbo, Keelung, Singapore, Durban, Singapore and Shanghai.
   The SF2 will deploy eight vessels, with an approximate average capacity of 4,000 TEUs, on a port rotation calling Kaohsiung, Xiamen, Hong Kong, Shekou, Singapore, Port Kelang, Durban, Cape Town, Port Kelang, Singapore and Kaohsiung.
   Hanjin’s participation begins this week on vessels departing Shanghai. It comes after Evergreen Line, COSCO, “K” Line, PIL and MOL merged the Far East-Africa Express and the Asia-South Africa Express into two loops.
   According to BlueWater Reporting, the Far East-Africa Express was operated by Evergreen Line and COSCO before the merge. Eight vessels, with an approximate total capacity of 33,901 TEUs, sailed every seven days on a 56-day rotation, with Evergreen Line operating five vessels and COSCO operating three.
   Vessels called Shanghai, Ningbo, Keelung, Singapore, Durban, Singapore and Shanghai.
   “K” Line, PIL and MOL operated the Asia-South Africa Express. Nine vessels, with an approximate total capacity of 41,185 TEUs, sailed every seven days on a 62-day rotation. K Line operated four vessels, PIL operated three and MOL operated two.
   Vessels departed Shanghai and sailed to Ningbo, Keelung, Xiamen, Hong Kong, Shekou, Singapore, Port Kelang, Durban, Cape Town, Port Kelang, Singapore, Hong Kong and Shanghai.
