Browz initiates compliance program for short line railroads

The compliance solutions company has created a program that will enable rail lines and contractors to achieve compliance to the FRA Part 219 requirements long before the deadline.    Contractor management services and compliance solutions company Browz has launched a SaaS-based solution to assist short line railroads in achieving compliance with the new FRA Part 219 requirements, according to a news release issued today.
   The new requirements from the Federal Railway Administration (FRA) mandate drug and alcohol testing upon hire as well as random and for-cause testing due to the increase in substance abuse, and consequent accidents, among railway employees and contractors.
   Originally reported by the Washington Post last September, the FRA has found a significant increase in drug-related railroad accidents – three times more than the number of drug-related accidents 10 years ago.
   The new FRA requirements will take effect June 12, but Browz’s new solution can be implemented immediately, allowing short lines and contractors to be compliant with ample time to spare. The company plans on assigning a single point of contact to each rail contractor to allow easy compliance within a short period of time.
