Busan volume up 3.4% through September, transshipment recovering

Busan volume up 3.4% through September, transshipment recovering Busan Port Authority said it handled record container volume for the first three quarters of 2008.
   The port handled more than 10 million TEUs through September, a 3.4 percent increase over the same period in 2007. BPA also said that transshipment volume has grown in August and September after being down 4 percent from April through July, primarily because Mediterranean Shipping Co. took away transshipment volume from the Korean port. Overall, Busan saw 5.9 million TEUs of import-export cargo (a 6.5 percent increase) and 4.2 million TEUs of transshipment volume (down 0.4 percent).
   The port projects volume of more than 14 million TEUs for the year.
