Browning to lead GM’s customs operation

   Douglas Browning, a former deputy commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection, is leaving Sandler Travis Trade Advisory Services after six years to become global customs counsel for General Motors, he announced in an e-mail to friends and colleagues.
   Browning was senior vice president and general counsel for STTAS and on call as an advisor to sister law firm Sandler, Travis & Rosenberg.
   In his new position, he will manage a team of more than 60 customs professionals, regional and global customs projects, assist in the implementation of the company’s global compliance program and advocate for reform of customs policies around the world.
   Browning retired from CBP in 2004 after 28 years of service and worked for a year at SAIC before joining STTAS. 
   He will be based in Washington, D.C.
