Earlier this year, Deutsche Post Global Mail acquired DHL's WorldMail service in other regions of the world. Last week Deutsche Post AG said it would raise its stake in DHL from 50.6 percent to 75 percent.
The latest agreement enables DHL to leverage Deutsche Post Global Mail's worldwide sorting and distribution network to serve its U.S. international mail customers. DHL will continue to handle mail pickup, billing and customer service, while Deutsche Post Global Mail will process mail in one of three U.S. mail handling units and distribute the mail to the end destination country.
Deutsche Post Global Mail Priority and Deutsche Post Global Mail Standard are the new names for the former WorldMail First Class and Air Printed Matter products. DHL will continue to offer these products as well as these services via the Deutsche Post Global Mail network: Canada Direct Entry, Domestic Flats, and USPS pre-sort International Priority Airmail and International Surface Airlift.
DHL will continue to offer the new Deutsche Post Global Mail products to customers through its existing sales and courier network. The service and product names will be promoted on a new DHL air waybill and through the company's communications, marketing and branding vehicles.
DHL introduced the WorldMail service 16 years ago.
Deutsche Post said it intends to acquire all stakes in DHL 'in due course.'
